thinking about a b16a2 swap into a 96 dx.....

would a gsr ecu work well? vs. the 99 civic si ecu that would match the engine?

I know that the gsr engine has a strange butterfly intake that other B series engines don't have, would that effect how a gsr ecu would run a b16?

any input would be appreciated, thanks.

The GSR ECU would be more expensive (generally) and be wasted on a B16 in your 96 Civic. The B16 ECUs will be cheaper and easier to get- just buy one of those.

Actually OBD2 p72 (gsr) ecu's will go for $100 which isn't a bad deal for an ecu. It is the OBD1 p72's that go for a mint. You won't throw a code or have problems running a b16 with that ecu even though your motor doesn't have IAB's (butterflys)

He has a 96, though. The 99-00 Si ecu is OBD2b and would require a conversion harness.

Hes going to have to rewire a few thing anyway.
1. Vtec Wiring
2. He will have to change the IVAC wiring to a 2 wire set up instead of the stock DX 3 wire set up.

What year is your B16A2. Is it a new one from a 99-00 SI???

If so just guy a 99-00 SI ECU and a 99-00 EX wiring harness and everything will be PnP

Did you get a harness at all with the engine? Because if not, buy a harness and ecu from a JDM B16. It will work the same except it is OBD2, not OBD2b, and it will not look for a second O2 sensor so you could run a test pipe without having to hook up a simulator or anything- no check engine lights.

After that get it chipped to get rid of the top speed limiter which is set pretty low in Japan.
