Ok, so basically I am in the market (possibly, once I get my questions answered) for a b18b. Maybe someone can help me out here. This would be a long slow project, that I would throw my heart into, but I would deffinatly want it for a daily driver. So anyway here are my questions.
If I got the ls block, stripped it, rebuilt it with stronger than stock parts (crank, crank bearings, rods, pins, pistons, rings, seals) Polished and sleeved the block, then took the head, and got retainers, and titanium springs, etc... and a good cet of cams and turbo lobes, is all of that too much for a daily driver? Vtec LS, Golden Eagle makes a Vtec conversion kit (Click Here) I have heard yes go vtec more power, and no dont go vtec it's pointless, so my question which is it? Yes vtec or no? And will making it vtec Take away from the daily driver? Basically I want to be able to just run stock boost, durring the work week, and then have fun on the weekend. Any input would be greatly apreciated. |

probably wouldn't have to get a new crank stock one is fine, you'll never "throw a crank" lol
as for the ls vtec... thats gonna be your decision, yes it has more power, worth the investment and head ache? well thats another issue all together. IMO if you want the daily driver more, and you just want to have fun, dont worry about converting to vtec not really worth it other saying you have LS vtec turbo.. |

LS/VTEC turbo is fine as long as you put it together well- but if you're going to swap out pistons, sleeves and all that- whoever does you work better know how to do a proper VTEC conversion too.
All those items in your build are perfectly fine for a daily driver. |

dude take it from me, cuz ive had the k20 with the pussy vtec and now i got the ls with no vtec, thier nothing alike. when i had my si it was like all it wanted to do was to go to vtec and screem but at real low rpms it was all bitchy and didnt have a lot of go. now with the ls i dont have the vtec and its got a broad powerband. it seems like a make power from 3k to 7k with no prob. only thing is when you get up to 6500 the car is like no dude no vtec im not made for this. all in all i think my ls is faster than my si was. it pulls harder in 3rd and 4th and it gets off its ass and goes in first and second. i dunno i think vtec is just a waste of ur cash. if ur running turbo ur gonna have power anyway so if it were up to me i would take a headache off my hands and say yes to turbo and no to vtec. but since it is up to me, on my car, im goin all motor no vtec and am gonna try and pull lik 190hp to 210hp. i got a lot of work in mind and ive done some research lately. drop me a pm whenever and ill tell ya what ive come up with or hit me up on aim.

Tuning tuning tuning tuning tuning tuning.
The right combination of mechanical components, turbo sizing, and fuel/engine management components with someone who knows what they are doing on a dyno, and it'll be perfectly daily driveable. I'd also run a VTEC oil pump and water pump. |

Well bearings with too close of a tolerance will spin if there is contact with the bearing, no matter what RPM you are at. It is imperative to select the correct size bearings and measure all tolerances correctly. OEM bearings are fine, just like OEM cranks are. I've seen OEM bearings go to 10k rpm without problems.

i say turbo the ls without vtec, yea u would make more hp with the vtec conversion, but is the power really worth the money??? consider howmuch power you will make with the vetec conversion and without. see the diffrence and decide for yurself if its worth it. but both r fine with turbo and both sound sick as hell. good luck man

I have a friend with a fully built B20 turbo who made 487 whp at 24psi. He recently slapped on a ported ITR head and said the power jump was NASTY. Waiting for new dyno results, but I'd look for at least 50 whp gains.
