Here is the deal:
I have an OBD1 DOHC Zc swap in my 93 hatch.I am running the stock P06 ECU.The ECU that goes with the Zc motor, the P29,is pretty hard to find.I have a p28 ecu(92-95 Ex/Si) lying around the house and was wondering if i could run that. The P06 runs the motor fine, but am just wondering if the p28 would run it better.
I have swapped in the p28 to see if it would work but the check engine light came on.I have no idea what code it was throwing, but figured it was because there is no vtec in my car and the ECU was "looking" for it.

Bottom line, just wondering if swapping in the p28 in place of the p06 would help my car any?

hmmm good question. I think it might get a little more power out of it, because the fuel map in a vtec motor runs a little richer in VTEC and might dump more fuel in the motor during higher RPM operation. BUT since the CEL is on, the ECU might run in a default or limp mode. Im not quite entirely sure about this question, just trying to put my .02 in. Someone to know this would be dubcac or calesta

Check the code. You should be able to run a VTEC ECU even though you don't have VTEC without problems. Certain CEL's put the ECU into limp mode, some don't. The P28 is probably a little bit more aggressive on timing and fuel, and has a higher rev limit. But ya, check that code. You could always sell the P28 and just run a chip in the P06.

I don't wanna spend any more $$ if i don't have to,so chipping the P06 or getting Hondata is out.I got the P28 for free and just wanted to see if it would help my Zc swap at all.

I was just wondering if the p28 would run the car better and if it would be beneficial, since i did get it for FREE.
If not i may as well just sell the P28 and keep my stock(p06) ECU.

Well once you sell the P28, you'll most likely be making money on the deal...not spending any.
