My buddy is in the process of buying a 92 Civic hatch and the guy that has it now blew the d16y8 that was in there, and put a d15 in and didn't change the ecu or anything and it runs like ass now. it only revs to like 3500 rpms and just doesn't sound right. I was wondering if a DOHC ZC motor would mount to the existing tranny? Also would we have to change the ECU? We thought of just putting the vtec head back on the d15 and he could have a mini-me for a while until he got the money to build a b16 like he plans on doing anyway. Please give any and all feed back. He just wants the car to run good and have some what of a strong heart so he can just put it on the road. THANKS

I would just get the correct ECU while you build your B16. Doing a head swap is to much trouble if your just going to swap it out later. Just my $0.02

Well here is the deal, the car has the everything for the vtec including the ecu and the guy that has it now didn't put a vtec motor in there. From the way I was thinking is that we could just put the vtec head on there and hook all the correct wires up. That then should be correct. I'm not a Honda Technician though.

You can do that, but it would be much easier and cheaper to buy a used ECU for $30 or so and drop it in... especially since you're just going to pull it all out later anyway. If it's going to take a long time to build the B16, then it might be worth it for you to mini-me the engine, but I would just get the ECU.

Well he likes to spend a lot of money on a lot of different things so i'm sure it'll take awhile for him to build it.

Im not sure if a ZC would mount to a d series tranny. If you guys want to swap the head then just do it. I think the wiring is the most difficult part, but you say that?s already done. so

Well, if he's going to take a year to build the B16, then have him go ahead and swap the head- as long as it doesn't take him an entire month to finish it.

A ZC IS a D series engine. It'll bolt right up. He'll just have to make sure to get an OBD1 DOHC ZC so everything wires in nice and easy.
