I wanted to know if a d16y8 can be swapped into like say a 1990 civic, I'll be doing nothing with the motor after the gsr swap is done, and my sunbeater is not to healthy, so if it can be done I'd sell the ponticrap and pick up an old hatch.
I don't see much about this type of swap anywhere, so what do ya think?

You can get anything to fit but this swap is not recommended and does not come without some issues.
Check this out.read the one that applies to you is "4th gen"

It's not recommended only because it's OBD2.... the Y8 is a very easy swap into the 4th gen Civic. Just get an OBD0 to OBD2 conversion harness and add some wires to your engine harness and you're good to go.

It will not drop right in and bolt up will it?
I thought the 4th gen mounts were slightly different?

It shouldn't be much of a problem at all. I would probably just wire it up OBD1 and convert the car over. If you end up wanting to sell your old y8 let me know though.

Ok thanks guys. The motor would mount up fine, it's just an issue with the wiring.
The conversion harness that calesta suggested would be good, but what are the other wires needed?

Is there certain bkts i'd need?

no no im gonna do the gsr,(into my ex) soon as the snow melts, i have a sunbird as my beater for the winter...it's a piece if ya know what i mean.
So heres what im thinking, sell the sunbird and pick up a like a 90,91 hatch and swap my d into this(after the gsr swap). seems like it would be a more reliable car considering the y8 is a 00 and has like 30,000 miles.

yeah that will fit u can use the motor mounts that came off the 90 civic..the only thing that will cause a prob is if the 90 is a dx with tbi,u will have to convert it to mpfi..(ie)si ex hf crx...if its has mpfi then u can use the 90 injectiors so u can use the 90 harness..and u will have to u the 90 dizzy two also keep it obd 0 it wont line up right with the vetec head so u will have to shave the inside of the adj holes on the dizzy to get it to fit right but only one hole will up with the dizzy and the head.. and also so to get the timming right..but yes a that sohc v-tec motor will fit in any 88-90 civic crx..cause i just put one in my buddy 90 crx ,bone stock,no header no intake.no exhaust.217.000 mile cat..15.5 1/4 mile time..no joke
