rotors have nothing to do with anything. The B-series and D-series axles both use a 32mm hub except for the JDM ITR that uses a 36mm hub.
other than that.. http://www.honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=550976 read up buddy, have fun.

Rims?? you don't need em unless you want em. Rotors are the
same thing. although it's always a good thing to upgrade your brakes after a more powerful motor is dropped in. What year is your car again?

uh like we said the wheels have nothing to do with the motor.... well they do in some aspects, but you dont NEED to but wheels if you're doing a motor swap.

What do want to know? tools are pretty much unexplainable
since there are so many involved. Special ones, tourque wrench and air tools if you have access.

air isn't required, i did my first swap with hand tools. takes longer though.
things you'll need are as follows im sure i'll miss stuff.. 1) 200 + extra dollars on tap in cash for all the things you forgot (oils, coolant, etc etc) 2) a engine hoist, unless you go ghetto garage and lower the motor and jack up the car. 3) lots of sockets varying 8,10,12,14,17, 19, 32 MM in deep socket short etc etc 3/4, 1/2 at least 4) a pry bar if you dont use air getting those axle nuts off the first time can be a bitch 5) butane torch, a lot of those bolts have been on for well how ever many miles you have on the car. honda bolts + age + tention = broken bolts.. so if you have a hard time.. dont over crank on a bolt.. heat up the nut holding it on after soaking it in penetrating oil.. (just dont catch anything on fire) this will losen the bolts enough to get them off. 6) Time.. if your doing it yourself... esp for th efirst time you need time.. i did mine in a weekend the first time but it had tons of bugs.. so if this is your daily ride make sure you have a back up plan to get to work. 7) jacks, jackstands 8) a honda service manual.. usually helms are decent.. go get your cars model and the motor your putting in's model.. usually their both in the same issue.. i know my 99 ex and my type R motor was in the same issue. im sure there's more but thats what i can think of now.. where do you live? |

Replace minor tune up parts....distributor cap and rotor, plug wires, plugs, fuel filter. Also replace major maintenance things like the timing belt and water pump, while the motor is out of the car...it's a pain to do it while the motor is in the car. If you want a better clutch/flywheel, again do it while the motor is out of the car.
If you plan on doing it yourself, I hope you are somewhat experienced in mechanic work. You'll probably need a friend to help you do the work....2 people are better than 1. |

yea as thier other guys said, have plenty of time and a back up plan. dont expect this to be done in a day, or even two if u have never done it before. take ur time even if it means its gonna take 5 days. its better than rushing and breaking something important and waiting the 5 days for the part. also def have another person. and not someone who is there for like2 hours, someone who can help you out the whole time.
i would highly recommend investing in a larger set of tools, actually scratch that. just go out and buy and add on to what u dont have. the best way i have found to do this is to go to sears, lowes, home depot, and go to thier clearance rack. just cuz ur missing one wrench or one socket doesnt mean its not worth it. then u can just buy the missing peice or even borrow it. i would say air tools are a plus but if you dont have exp. with them i wouldnt use them. ' def try to find some DIY's on the internet and try and speak to someone on a forum that has done this swap or a similar one because they will be able to tell you the probs they ran into and what they did to solve it. finally, be persistant, just cuz it doenst work one way doesnt mean its impossible. theres a lot of snags that you will run into and that doesnt mean that you should quit and take it somewhere. it just means you gotta work around it and find a new solution to the problem. theres always more than one way to do something, trust me. good luck man, keep us informed |
