Also what about balance stock pistons and shot peed rods...I just want to make sure this stuff isn't a lot better buy compaired to just going aftermarket.

Thanks for any help given

balancing is def. a good thing and a must when building an engine. knife edging on the other hand is just an extra.

The OEM cranks are very strong, there's no need to go aftermarket. Balancing helps in high RPM applications to ensure that the crank doesn't wobble or vibrate and cause bearing wear. Knife edging is an extra that lightens the crank, making it easier for it to turn. Aftermarket cranks are expensive, and unless you want to get a stroker kit, there's no need for an aftermarket one. As for pistons and rods, I would go aftermarket instead of shotpeening/balancing the OEM stuff.

The only other benefit to knife edging that he left out was windage...it cuts down on windage. but its not a very streetable thing to do...a lot of the big time racers do it...but its not a necessity and doesnt gain that much on just a street motor.

So how much strength do you lose by knife Edging a crank? I am basicly building motor from ground up so its not like tt a major deal to get it done. I don't mind spending money on aftermarket crank and having it knife edged if it save me money in long run. So what is stock crank good till?

I am pretty sure this has been gone over before here. I know on old site it was, but I have not seen it on here.
