I got everything I need to do my swap except the header and cat converter, It's a 97 gsr motor, the guy at the shop said to use a 99-00 b16 header, does that sound right, w/ a 2 1/2 opening and then get a high flow cat? Will this line up with a eg cx aftermarket exhaust. Also if anyone has a stock cat that will fit my car i might want to buy it, also will a stock cat bolt up to a 2 1/2 in header without modification.

you should get either an after market header or just use the stock gsr header, if your getting a high flow cat 90% of the time they dont come with the flanges welded on, so when you go to get it welded just line it up with the header then.

i dont think a b16 header will fit that motor correctly, i know a intake manifold wont. but i could be wrong

I bought the dc sports 4 to 1 ceramic coated header for a gsr, i got that and the gasket for $302 shipped. Pretty good deal imo, was trying to find a used one but I had no luck, oh well this build up has been so cheap so far I figured i'd splurge a little....

Another question off the original topic but the guy at the shop near me said i should go back to the stock gsr flywheel because the lightened flywheel throws the motor off balance, it's not really going to do anything anyways, and that his shop "learned the hard way about using them on all motor applications"

Yea, you can't use a B16 header on a GSR...it's too short and won't clear the oil pan. As for the flywheel, your shop guy is a fucking retard.
1. A lightweight flywheel won't throw off the balance of the motor.
2. It makes a significant difference in acceleration.

exactly what i thought, next question...i'll be running this motor obd1 with a p28, it's chipped for a 99-00 b16 with 8,800 redline and vtec at i think 5400 rpm. Will i need to use b16 sensors, i don't have an o2 sensor and need to buy one. This might be a stupid question but i'm not sure.

Dub is right the best header is to go with a gsr or itr header for the taller deck. I would just save the money if I were you and use a JDM SIR-G manifold. It has a decent sized collector and runners compared to a USDM manifold. Use your existing wiring from your stock motor using your stock sensors. You just need to add a few new wires for your setup. If you are using a P28, be aware that your IAB's won't, so you would be best to do a Skunk2 manifold or if cost is a factor you can run a vacuum line straight from the manifold to the IAB valve so that the valve stays closed during normal driving and opens at WOT.

Just got off the phone with peter at rywire, i'm sending him a stock eg dx engine harness and he's converting it to a gsr that will be plug and play for my car, all i'll have to do is run the vtec wires to the ecu plug, which he is adding with the pins, should be real easy. I also got a 4 wire o2 sensor from him all for$195 shipped. Btw i am running a skunk 2 intake mani, it's already on the motor. I think i'm good now, just have to decide if i want to use my current shell or buy another to use for the swap.

i'd be concerned with this shop you're using, if they're telling you to use a b16 header on a b18 and saying lightened flywheels are bad... that's pretty rudimentary stuff to get wrong.
