Just registered the Father/Son project yesterday and was driving to the inspection station when the exhaust rusted through from the backside of the cat.

We were hoping to make it to the springtime but now we have to change the piping to pass inspection. We might as well change everything including the cat.

Please offer your advice as to high flow cats, size of exhaust (2.25"?) and muffler. We'll be going to a shop and get some stainless custom bent.

We're on a strict budget and don't want anything too loud/big. Current muffler is from a 4dr GSR.

Your suggestions are much appreciated.

what motor do you have, i fyou have a stock motor just stick with the 2.25 no real reason to go up.

ebay up catco cat's thats what i have, they usually dont come with flanges or bungs so make sure you get those too for the size of the piping your going to connect it to. Everyone talks about the n1 muffler. I personally have a greddy, maybe im used to it but it sounds great. Low growl under normal driving but lets loose when you get on it.

JDM B16A with what I assume to be a stock exhaust manifold (has heat wrapping tape, stainless steel).

Stupid newbie question - Is the center muffler required?

Alternatively, would an Apexi WS2 for a coupe drop into the 4dr EX?

Thanks for your help

The center muffler is a resonator (basically a glass pack muffler) They help a lot when it comes to reducing the raspy sound of a four cylinder. The World Sport is a great exhaust and should fit, but there might be some slight modification. I do know for sure that the rear sections are the same, though. For a cat, I would recommend a Carsound (Magnaflow), but the Catco is a good alternative for lower cost.

The WS2 is a great exhaust...I'd definitely get that over a muffler shop exhaust.
