well, my sticker expires tomorrow, and there aren't any OBD2 ECU's that will run with the b20 block without throwing a CEL; which = failed emissions. I'd be spending $150-200 for fake tags every year if I didn't swap..might as well save that and use it for the swap. How much does a b16a head swap generally run? Phil quoted me 1650 for all parts/labor. I saw b16a heads on ebay running ~400-500. Is the JDM head different from the USDM b16a? also, are the advantages of gsr or type r head worth the extra $$? I'm still thinkin b16a just cause it's cheaper.
thanks, cam

If you get a smoking deal on the type r, go for it. If not, use the money saved on buying a b16 head towards aftermarket stuff. BTW, why don't you use an ls ecu?

well, the 92-95 LS ECU, which is what i'm running on, is OBD1. since my car came OBD2, it will automatically fail. the newer LS ECU has disabling feature or something that prevents it from working. i forgot what all he said. eitherway, i wouldn't mind getting the head swap. he said it will put the car around 200 at the crank + bolt ons. i'm thinking a usdm b16 head for now. how difficult is it to perform the swap yourself?

Dude- $80 for inspection in Dallas... that's all. B20/VTECs don't pass emissions all that well anyway.

An OBD2 LS ecu, 96-99 should work. I dont think the immobilizer was put on until the obd2b ecus in 00-01.

That is correct, It was 2000 when the Acura Integra first had the immobilizer cuicuit.

Aaron- $80 is fine for me- I'd rather pay the extra $40 and be sure than try and do stuff to pass once I fail (if I fail) at a straight sniffer station. |

i asked about the 96-99 LS ECU and phil said that all of the OBD2 LS ECUs won't fit the 99-00 civic. I guess it has a different connector. I'll probably get a fake tag for now and start saving up for a head swap. I noticed that most people get B16A..is it cheaper? better performance?
thanks for the help
