Ok since my d16z6(92-95) in my coupe is developing a rod knock I'm looking towards replacement motors. I found a few low mileage d16y8s (96-00) and was just curious if there was anything spectacular i need to know about replacing my Z6 with a Y8. I'm pretty sure everything should just bolt up right?

You will be going to OBD2 so be ready to do some wiring. Other than that you should be fine.

You have to swap over the wiring harness, distributor, alternator and some little stuff like the map sensor to get it to run right. Other than that, it should be a plug and play operation

Pretty much already said. If you skimp on the labor and use what you've already got in the car, your new hampster will run more like a pinky mouse.
Take the extra time, re-wire, replace the engine components, and maybe even ecu and you'll be all set.

Good luck.

Ahhhhh couldnt he just use the P28 ecu with no mods to the wiring? Why would he want to switch it to the P2P? The P2P sucks and is quite difficult to chip or hook a hondata to. OBD2B/ OBD2A sucks........

I thought he should be able to use the Z6 wiring on the Y8, he would have to use the Z6: Throttle body, injectors, and distributor. And that would plug into the P28 ecu............. what ya think?

You would use the p28 ecu for sure. The injectors will have diffrerent ends and will need rewired or use the obd1 injectors Just use the old alternator and distributor. The throttle body should have the same end but I am not for sure on that one. Since it is an obd2 engine, it will have a few more sensors, but don't worry about hooking them up since the p28 won't read them.

Am I stupid or are you just putting the same motor in your car? Otherwise...if your are puttin the much money into getting a like motor...just find a B18B1. They are UBER faster than you d series and a Real load of fun. You will hate yourself for doing that swap...trust me. Put your money into performance and wait to get a B series. My old motor had 2 piston rings that were broken, a tranny that leaked and all others, But I waited till I had enough money for a really nice B18B1 setup. I am sooo happy. Just a little something to think about.

But with him putting a Y8 in the car couldnt he use the Z6 injectors, tb, dist., wiring harness, ect?? wasnt the old set-up obd1? Then all you would have to do is swap the parts onto the Y8 and plug in the ECU........

*beau_safken*
why would swaping to the B series be so much better? For the price of a b series motor he could get a d series cheaper and build it up and it would have more power. ya think????
