Well, right now I'm running a B20Z (as most of you probably already knew). I've got GSR tranny atm, but it has a cracked case so I'm bringing it back to fix for free. Bascially, which tranny is better? LS, GSR, or SI? I've heard that LS is good for turbo, which I eventually plan on doing, but that it is very slow until then. GSR..I've got it right now, my only pet peeve is the high rpm on the highway, but it's not bad. SI I've heard is even shorter than GSR? Eitherway, which tranny would you guys recemmend? My driving is mostly city..
___SI___GSR__LS 1st 3.230 3.230 3.230 2nd 2.105 1.900 1.900 3rd 1.458 1.360 1.269 4th 1.107 1.034 0.966 5th 0.875 0.787 0.714 Final 4.266 4.400 4.266 Looks like the Final Drive is the same for SI and LS, but none of these numbers make any sense to me :P

The SI is shorter than the gsr, you are correct. I would personally go with a GSR tranny. People say the LS is best for turbo because of the long gearing and you stay in boost longer, but shorter gearing will always provide faster acceleration..period. While it is shorter, it's not too short. The SI tranny will be too short for your 6800 rpm redline.

definately agree on the gsr tranny, you'll still be quick if your turbo plans take a long time or just doesn't happen.

Personally I like the longer gears of the LS tranny. It lets you "feel" the engine more when you are driving and has a VERY nice gear ratio from 2nd to 3rd...I kill everyone with that shift. Oh did I mention that its about 400 bucks also...mega cheap.

The LS 3rd gear lags considerably compared to the GSR 3rd gear.

I have a friend that made his own tranny a "Hybrid Trans" He is very pleased with is and it is great for every day driving and Draging.
He used the LS 1&2, GSR 3 and ITR 4&5. This way you have the lower end of LS for launching and starting the, GSR for a monster power band and the Type R for Smoking top end ( Freeway racing)
