hey i was in the process of building an n/a b20vtec. i mainly just wanted to know on 93 octane what would be recommend max compression ratio that it will not detinate or damage anything. also i hear that the b20 blocks are pretty weak what can i do that will help the chance of a sleeve cranking. i hear that block gurdles are for sure. has anyone ever used a block guard. is it even worth it??? im also thinging that an oil cooler would also help. if you can think of anything that might help please post thanks.

How high compression you can run depends on how much you want to spend in tuning and engine management. The general rule is around 12:1 compression, but higher can be run with a Hondata or AEM EMS, or something of the sorts.

The B20 sleeve isn't "really weak".. it's just a different design than the B18 and slightly weaker... maybe. Just build it right and you'll be fine. My B20/VTEC lasted for 45k miles until I blew a ring, and that was running 12.6:1 compression on 93 octane and revving to 8500 countless times per day.
