There are soo many possibilities to hyour vtec problems that you might want to start with checking the basics.
as you said you just recieved this car a few months ago I would check the previous owners work. 1. check timing(if the timing isnt being advanced enough it will not have enough spark to ignite the addition fuel and air mix) 2. check timing marks for cams, crank 3. check color of your spark plugs(you want a white pink color)(pure white is lean, black is rich)(check gap also) 4. if you have a fuel pressure guage and adjustable fuel regulator check the pressure, adjust accordingly) those are the basics... as most of you know when the vtec enguages it locks a higher lift rocker arm into place so that you have increased flow to the cumbustion chamber. fuel maps and air flow are increased. from what it sounds like to me the vtec is being enguaged properly. I will explain my thoughts. from what you are explaining it sounds like your losing timing, or your not getting a good spark to combust the extra fuel. I am thinking that this is happening all the time, you just notice it more due to more fuel and air being added to the scenario. Also check your grounds on your body to make sure they have good contact. the computer issues are totally different. My question to you is how do you know that the computer is messed up? what codes is it throwing? I hope this helps, but without seeing or hearing, or running codes on the computer, its only guessing at your problem, through your eyes. Hope you get it worked out, keep us posted. |

On the plug you don't want a white/pink color, you want a brownish color to the electrode. I agree that his vtec is engaging, and something is wrong with the tune...pulling the plugs and having a look will tell him loads about how his car is running.

Okay, thanks for the help so far guys.. I know already without pulling the plugs that my car is running extremely rich.. check out my air/fuel ratio from my dyno chart..
http://www.rmkwood.com/dyno_afr.jpg http://www.rmkwood.com/dyno_hp.jpg I'm going to see a guy on the 27th about all this.. apparently he's the best around.. knows all there is to know about hondas.. and he's the only hondata rep around toronto.. he told me I don't need hondata though, he can just tune the ecu the way it is.. |

the white pink is the porcelin (sp?)
white pink means you are gettin the perfect air fuel ratio for combustion. and correct the electrode should be brownish color have you tried hotter plugs? |

Well all is good now.. I fixed the leak on the valve cover with a new gasket and I did spark plug seals at the same time.. I went to the guy to get it tuned and never ended up doing it.. instead they did a diagnostic.. they went through timing, ignition, and my computer.. everything looked good mechanically but it was still bogging up.. so they pulled off my cat and exhaust and when they did that they found that my cat was all blocked up.. they also said the stock exhaust is not very good to run on because its too small.. so I ended up getting a high flow cat and a cat back Apex'i N1 exhaust.. something I was going to do anyways, just didn't plan on it this soon.. so anyways, long story short.. it's running like a champ now! And I'm going back this friday to get it fine tuned..
