Someone wanna help me out here. I know I'm gonna need an intake when I do the engine swap, but my question is: Should I buy a CAI or a SRI? Is it worth the money to buy the CAI? Where I live there is alot of snow, and rain, so I am also going to have to purchase a by-pass valve. What will the HP increases look like, will there be much difference between a CAI and a SRI? Thanks in advance, sorry for the noob question.

Also, how would my gains be if I installed a SRI w/ a custom air inclosure. I think you guys know what I'm talking about, I saw b16asilverhonda (Dan?) talking about one. Would this be as/more effective than a CAI?

I dont know about he sri enclosure deal but I would just go w/ the CAI w/ bypass valve. CAI has more power gains than a short ram. AEM did a dyno on a d-series and 4.5 for the old cai and w/ the v2 was 7.2.

On a stock motor you aren't going to notice the difference between the 2 intakes. As far as the bypass valve goes, it's worthless. The ENTIRE filter has to be submerged before the bypass valve does it's job. IMO, I would go with the shortram, no sense in taking a chance with the CAI if you get as much rain as you say.

Okay Thanks again everyone. I heard the Injen SRI does the best job on dyno tests, but thats because on dyno's they have the hood open and cold air blowing (from what I've heard). Now, would this be a good thing for me? I mean, I'm gonna be driving w/ the hood closed (preferably), will this just be taking in more HOT air, and causing a loss in performance?

I drive some nasty roads, so I decided to go with a short ram. The CAI will perform better, though. One thing that you can do is get the cold air and during the winter cut the pipe and make it a short ram. Just get a silicone coupler and you can make it back to a cold air during nice weather months.

i live in michigan and i have the aem cai. with all the snow and junk i have never had any problems.. unless you drive through 12" deep puddles, the bypass valve is a waste of money. as a matter of fact, the plastic piece inside my wheelwell has been destroyed leaving my air filter exposed. and still, never had a problem. just have to replace it more often. AEM cai is much better than the short ram in my opinion.
