heres the situation. 97 civic ex with a 92 B16A (2nd gen) swap, AEM cai, Greddy 4:2:1 stainless header... best time with 17" wheels is a 15.8.. the only time i have ever raced at a 1320 track.
i was looking up prices for shit last night to help me get into the 14's. -skunk2 intake manifold: about $300 shipped on ebay. -comptech test pipe: $125 on some website. (no emissions where i live) -Tanabe cat back exhaust: whatever the newest model is and wherever i can get it for cheapest. -Apexi vtec controller: it was like $300 or something off of ebay -konig helium ultralight, or rota circuit 8 wheels. in 15" ofcourse, as well as bronze. i figure i can save over 50 pounds on the wheels and tires alone! with 15's instead of 17's i can lower the car and stiffen up the suspension without worrying too much about bending rims. then next summer i go with a NX 50 shot wet and an ACT clutch. should i chip it? which is the best? anything that would help go faster without boosting car? any info would be greatly appreciated! (cheapest prices are good too) -Dane

Lighter wheels, aftermarket exhaust, and a lightweight flywheel will make a decent difference and would be the first things to do if I were you. The b16 has a decent flowing intake manifold compared to the b18c1, so that would probably be towards the bottom of the list, IMO.

i assumed making both the intake and exhaust flow as freely as possible will free-up quite a bit of power. meaning the intake manifold and test pipe.
what about a vtec controller. what are benefits of a vtec controller besides being able to lower the point of vtec enguagement? thanks, -Dane

I know its your car and not mine but the $ you put into a swap and my Y8 and 75 shot is still faster and I spent less.

Dude.....try this
1. Civic HX wheels. around 11-12 pounds a piece and look stock. That way people wont want to steal your car for the damn wheels... 2. After market exhaust makes a HUGE difference. You must get a FULL exhaust kit to see the difference. Also that header will compliment a new exhaust anyway. 3. I tell you this from experience. GET a new ACT clutch asap. The clutch I have, heavy duty pressure plate and SS(street modified something) clutch makes a very large difference in performance. MY clutch is easily the one part of my car that helps me smoke people. It just doesnt slip and is very fast to use. Get a clutch asap. Chips are worthless, spraying kind of defeats the purpose of going N/A and the manifold might not help but hurt your engine unless your going turbo. Sides you dont need that much flow unless you are going turbo. Otherwise its good to see you have a plan.

The clutch and flywheel should be done soon and at the same time because it will save a bunch of money if you are having someone else do it for you if you do it then the time you save is definately worth the wait so you can save for them both. I personally use an ACT heavy Duty pressure plate and a six puck clutch disc but i would recomend the street and strip disc. i also am running a JUN chromoly flywheel. It weighs just a touch above 8lbs and made a huge difference in acceleration and 1/4 times. I recommend a chromoly flywheel over aluminum because they have a tendency to warp less often than aluminum. They are more expensive but if you buy a quality unit then you should never have to replace it.
