Trouble With Keyless Remote

Hi, I'm Grace. I just bought a keyless entry remote on Ebay for my 98 Civic LX, and I can't make it work! I bought this car used, and it didn't come with remotes, but it does have the original radio. I had assumed it had keyless entry.

When I try to program the remote, I use the valet switch on the radio and I do hear the locks whirring (so that's a good sign, right? that the radio and the locks do have a connection? Does that mean I do have keyless entry?)

Anyway, I can't program the remote to work. The LED light comes on, so the batteries aren't dead. I'm wondering if it's the wrong kind of remote for a 98? I looked it up online, and thought it was the right kind. The only identification I know of is the FCC number: KOBUTAH2T, but other people have told me that number doesn't matter.

So if this is the wrong kind of remote, how do I find the right kind??? Thanks for any help you can give!!!

Do this: go to the honda dealer ask them how to program the remotes, there is a special way of doing it. When I use to work at the nissan dealership we had to get in the car, close the doors, enter the key 10 times in the ignition, lock the doors manually, unlock them, then test the keyless remote. There might be some kind of procedure you might have to do to program that remote for your car. Best bet is to go to the honda dealership.
