I think my clutch need to be replaced because i am having a harder time than usual gettting it into reverse and when I am going on the road when I shift to third gear ther tranny grinds then it goes into gear? What i want to know is do I have to take the engine out to replace it or can i get to it through the right side of the car?

Well first off welcome to Civicland!
You don't have to take the motor out, but you will need to unhook a couple of engine and transmission mounts and lower the engine a little to get at all the bolts for the casing. Are you just replacing it to another oem clutch or are you putting a performance related clutch in? Because if you are going the performance route, you should do the flywheel too while you've got it all apart. On a side note, every civic will mess with you every couple of times trying to go into reverse! |

wow alright...no you dont have to pull the motor...the tranny comes out really easy. you dont have to lower the motor/tranny to get to any of the bolts. you do have to remove the front torque mount on the tranny(or just undo the 2 14's that hold the mount to the frame, its easier), the top tranny mount, and the back mount bracket. underneath the motor, there are supports that go from the inspection plate to the motor, those must be removed along with the inspection plate. the starter has to be removed.
To change the clutch your gunna need a 12 point 10mm socket. if your going to have the flywheel surfaced, your going to need a 12 point 17mm socket. if you are having trouble with 3rd gear only...its probably a synchro. reverse isnt a big deal. If your clutch is starting to creep near the top, thats a good sign that you need a new clutch soon. It will also start slipping. FYI Do not buy an autozone clutch...you will really regret it. It will look like a shaved dog a few weeks after you put it in. Especially if you plan to do any hard driving. If you want some info on an aftermarket clutch, let me know i can get them pretty cheap. along with flywheels. |

Those 12 points pissed me off so bad. It was 1:00am and I thought I could have it done by morning till I seen that. I wasted a whole day just getting new sockets...
