I'm probably going to end up buying this car real cheap. The mechanic (who is not that reputable) says the motor is "locked up". I just want to replace it with another reliable motor as I am not going to drive except on and off a trailer.

My question is, if the motor is locked up do I need to purchase another or is this one salvagable?

If not, where can I find a cheap motor to throw in there?

depends, generally when a motor "locks up" something has to bind. the last motor i saw just lock up, the bearing spun, and stuck on top of each other, creating a wedge between the rod and the crank, in that case it just needed a new rod and a new crank"i dont like getting cranks turned."

So, would that be the most simple problem with a locked up motor?

Could a rebuild solve the problem?

The first thing is what morot is in it, and it is worth saving? Some times you can get them loose. All really commes down to weather it's worht it or not.

He's right.. you dont wanna spend a load of cash fixing up an old busted rex motor when you could just get a swap to drop in it.

This car is going to be driven on a very rare basis. In fact, it will be used in USAC competitions and that is it. So I just need a motor to get me on and off a trailer and into a judging lane. Besides, I'm not quite sure I could do a swap myself and I don't know what would be cheap to go in there.

This car is only $150 with a full interior, all the glass in tact, fairly straight body (except front end).

It has the original HF motor with 202,000 miles on it.

Is there a place in KC, MO that can do the swap?
