Thanks for the help. It didn't actually pop out of gear, though. It was still in gear, but it acted like it popped out. It just stopped working. It would still go in gear, but wouldn't do anything, now it won't go in the gear. I can't shove it into it. That's why I'm thinking it's the pin that holds the gears together. I think it broke and the gears are out of alignment and that's why I can't get it in.

theres a couple of things that it could be. first it could be that your clutch is bad because u said that it was making a strange noise unlike a grinding. is it a chattering? cuz if it is then ur clutch is bad. second it could be bead syncros. i think this is def the problem. u could bad syncros in 3, 4, 5 and that would not affect ur reverse or first or second. this is most likely the problem especially if your clutch is still good. third is it could also be the pin in the trans that a couple of the other guys said. like i said earlier i think that it is the sycros and that they need to be replaced especially if you have a lot of miles on your car. good luck.

I recently had a problem quite simaler to this one. I had be out at the track running my 2001 civic and it started acting all strange in the gears,it would grind when i put into gear, let alone want to go in any gear. so i ended up taking it down to the honda shop and turns out I burned my syncros, and threw a few barings and a bent a torque fork. 1459 dollars later. It was fixed.

Yeah in a military town you just have a tendancy to get screwed where ever you go, and half the people dont know what they are doing any ways. We have a term for it in the army:
