Hello. I have been looking into buying a motor and I see that automatics are a lot cheaper. I want a b18c. If I bought an automatic engine/tranny and then bought a lsd type r manual tranny (which I heard is a better upgrade), would I be able to install the manual tranny in place of the auto? I am assuming that I will need a new clutch, flywheel, and shift linkage? On ebay this guy sells autos for $2000 and maunuals for $2900.

The problem your not looking at is this. You will spend $2000 for a swap with a auto tranny then another $500 to $1200 for a manual tranny. Then another $400-$800 for a clutch, And flywheel. Just buy a manual swap in the first place and save the time and money.

I thought about upgrading to a lsd type r tranny anyways! It is good to buy a new clutch too! I could sell the auto tranny for whatever and get some cash back! So back to my question?

Just buy the 5pd tranny setup and sell the 5spd to get the typeR setup and pay the difference.. No sense in getting an automatic setup to sell a tranny nobody would want.

you can always find engines without transmissions and just get the type r tranny. but if not go with what doughboy said its your best bet. think about it who buys a used automatic transmisson

Try Japan Parts
They are based in Japan and also run a place in South San Francisco California. Tell them what you want and Im positive they will have it all, And fairly reasonable. Keep in mind, most of their motors are (JDM) if you want a USDM motor make sure you tell them you want a USDM motor but more than likely they will be rebuilds. Call Information and ask them for the phone #, They can give you a price over the phone. Im not sure If they ship them out or not. |
