Hey all,
Do any of you have any good links on how to do a paint job myself? I'm thinking about doing one in my garage.. I just need more info on everything basically.. prep work, filler/body repair techniques, what type of paint to buy, what type of gun and nozels, and the steps to painting.. any help would be greatly appreciated! Also, can you paint on carbon fiber? If so what do you have to do to prep it? Cheers. |

Personally, i would not do a paintjob myself unless you have the know how, and experience. you can ruin a beautiful or potentially nice car by making a failed attampt at this.
If you must or are trying to do this to save moeny; the equipment and or the work and cost of materials to repair a mistake may end up costing you more than you'd spend on a nice paint job. just my 2 cents. |

Things you will need:
-Good HVLP Spray Gun -60 Gal or above air compressor. -Moustiure Filters for Air Compressor -Some kind of air exchange going on (Down Draft,,etc) -Tons of sheet or plastics or something -A Shit load of GOOD white lighting If you dont know what your doing, I would suggest going to a bookstore and doing ALOT of research, painting is not one of those things where you can just pick up a spray gun and do it, its something you have or you dont. Just like being an artist.

I was going to paint my own car last summer, I know how so I thought it would save money but in the end it would have been more expensive for me to paint my own car than to pay someone because of supplies to do it right cost cash lots of cash. So I would say unless you are hell bent on trying to learn yourself pay someone else to do it. A cheaper way to learn is what I did enroll into the local community college just to take the auto paint class. Cost 300 Bucks and I didn't have to pay for any supplies. And at the end of the semester if you want they let you paint your own car. Just something to think about

yeah it works for you in so many ways because you learn the valuble skill forever, you save shitload of money , and You don't have to pay for any supplies except paint. And they have the proper facilities to do it in. i.e a paint booth.

I would never paint my own car, I dont trust myself.. Thats good side money if you have the tools and can afford a little side spot to do it at.
