I'm in the market for an engine swap, obviously and I need to know if anyone has done a swap between a 92-95 B16A with a 2000 Civic EX. If you have links to articles that would be great or if you want to take the time to write your own how to guide that works I guess. I'm also swaping my automatic transmission for a hydralic manual. I read at another forum you can't use hydralic transmissions on this years? I have no idea... I'll be around to post replys, most likely ordering the engine tomarrow...

Sounds like you should hold off on ordering your motor for now and take some time to research!

You can use any 92-00 ex/si tranny on your car. Of course new tranny motor mounts are needed which all adds up upon converting your auto > manual..
Dropping a B16 is one of the simplest swaps around, We dont have any DIY's on the swap itself but other than the hydraulic tranny what else were you looking to find out? |

If you want the swap to be legal, you need to use an engine that is the same year or newer than the car. As far as the transmission goes, you can't use a cable transmission in your car...it must be hydraulic. You should know that you'll need a bunch of stuff besides the transmission for the manual conversion....clutch lines, master/slave cylinders, pedal assembly, etc. The rest should come with the swap.

Well, I would post a link to the engine and stuff but, yeah I want to get it and not get it sold quicker... But anyway I was rushed to write the first post last night. Let me explain more what I have going. The chassis is a 2000 Civic EX with an SOHC VTEC-E (D16Y8) and an automatic transmission. The donor engine and transmission is being bought in a clip (front 3rd of a car). It's a B16A (obviously) with a hydralic manual transmission (all stated above). I can't find a shop in my area (Portage, In (near Gary, and Chicago)). I know of places in Chicago, but I'm not really rich, and I can do it with the help of my friend. I'll be talking to him later, we are going to check out my car at the shop it's at now (I somehow broke my crankshaft; but it most likely wasn't me cuz I bought it used). Has anyone had any involvment with swaping a trans in a civic? I need to know how hard it is. Rate it 1 to 10 even. I'm a car noob but I do computers for a living and am finding this pretty easy going. My friend is the mechanic, so I just need to find out how to do it for him. He never has.
My major questions: 1. I assume the clip includes everything needed, correct? I mean it is the whole front end of the car... 2. Is the firewall "perferated" or precut to accept the clutch or manual transmission? My friend says his ford focus was like that... 3. Do I need to buy a different wireing harness if it is JDM. Incase you didn't realize, I live in the US... Thanks for your response... |

1.No, Motor mounts should be changed (hasport Has a decently priced kit), as well as tranny mounts needing to be done. 2 No, All that will have to be cut and routed for your clutch pedal etc... 3.No, Your automatic ECU will not read a JDM motor that is Manual.. This is why auto > manual is a pain in the ass. I have to do it since my whole entire car is complete but my motor, im not doing twice the work to save $500 to $600 depending on what I swap in my car. |

you can reuse your stock harness and just add a few wires.
the clip should come with everything you need.
