Just want to get your thoughts on this topic. After talking to a couple people on how much stuff cost to customize a vehicle they were shocked. "Would'nt it be cheaper just to by a sports car?"

I guess I could not give a perfect answer on that. Is customizing a civic to handle like a Porche, acclerate like a corvette, and look like a mercedes worth the money. Would it be cheaper to just buy a sport car i.e. camero to obtain your hp goals?

its all in personal preference. any vehicle you pick and decide to do some custom work is going to run you some cash. it all depends on your goals. if you want a honda civic to accelerate like a vette, that will probably require a built b series turboed. that will run you a MINIMUM 6-10g's if you do the work your self.

handle like a porche, you will probably spend at least 2500 on your suspension. if your do it yourself.....

and than if you want it to look like a mercedes..... well use your imagination on how much it will cost and then double it and you will probably have a good idea of how much of a money pit your civic will be.

Again it depends on what you want. If you stick with a used 99 Civic SI, adding a turbo and tuning would keep you under 20k easy. This is cheaper than a stock sports car over 300 ponies. But you could get a used firebird and turbo it, for about the same amount. Just depends on what you want. Try to be a bit more specific.

Just want to point out to my friends that its cheaper to take a civic customize it to your exact liking and have it still be cheaper than and as powerful if not more than a stock sports car.

customizing your civic will definitely be cheaper than a porsche, vette, or mercedes.

but it wont be cheaper than an evo, sti, or srt after its all said and done.

like everyone's said... it just depends on how far you're gonna take it... if you fully build it top to bottom, it'll be a nice load of cash, but if you just slap a turbo on a civic you were given for your 16th birthday, it won't be much more than 2-3k

Also consider gas cost on those "sports car". I would much more peffer my civic at 400whp then say a camaro with 400whp. I can't imagine paying for gas for old chevy luv pickup with 454 now a days.....
Like said about its prefrence...Who gives a damn bout what others think..are they driving it? Did they pay for it? It's yours get what makes you happy........

another thing to think of .. u could go out and buy a new rsx for about 23k or u can take your older civic swap a good engine in their and get a new suspension setup for about 8k and u would be probally surpassing the rsx's performance.

just remeber modding any car isnt cheap. no matter what u have.

Thing I like about the tuning civics is that I can drive my stock 98 ex engine till its dead, swap in a new motor and get even more life and performance out of my car. Thanks for the good feedback
