What does a 4V have over a V6 or V8? Does a V4 200 hp get to 60 mph faster than a v6 250 hp engine?...

i dont know if there are such things as V4s...the cylinders are in line in a 4 cylinder and are therefore called I4 or just 4 banger should do. 0-60 has to do with alot more than just the amount of cylinders and horsepower rating. weight of car, tuning of the engine, air flow, throttle response..all sorts of things. i dont know a whole lot about anything though and im sure somebody else will clarify even more.

usually they put bigger engines in bigger cars, but most of the time 4 cylinders get much better gas mileage, are easier to maintain and don't have as many problems, but they also lack the power of v6's and v8's. But, if you have a 4 cylinder powering a go-kart, and a v6 powering a tractor trailer, the 4 cyl go kart is going to win.

Let me rephrase my statement:

I4 vs. V6/V8

What are the benifits to for each style. If we are going to swap engines,
why not swap in a V6?

You already stated that the I4 is simpler, and get better fuel economy but is there anything else?

Do they rev up quicker getting to max horepower faster than a V8?
Is there wieght to power ratio more than a V6 or V8?
Do they responde better to forced induction?

Don't think of it in terms of cylinders. Think of it in displacement. The larger the displacement the more available torque, which will net a higher horsepower. Bigger the displacement the greater the need for more cylinders.

Power to weight ratio takes the entire car into account. Of course the larger the engine the more weight, but more power available.

Forced induction is all tuning and the correct turbo. But again more displacement the more power.

I am looking for a little bit more here.

Why do v6 and v8 hit max hp at lower revs then I-4s?

Is this a good or bad thing?

if two cars wieghed the same and had the same hp but one was a I4 and one a v6 which one would get from point a to b the fastest?

it doesnt' matter what type of engine's in a car... if they both have the same hp and torque and weigh the same, then they're gonna get from point a to point be at the same time.

no not necessarily, cuz one car make accelerate faster than that of the other, u gotta remember the powerbands here two, now if it was a mile strip, and u had two cars with the same weight and hp, then yes they would prolly be close to each other. but when it comes down to it, theres just a lot more to the story then I4, or V6. its basically preference, but to honest if u have a v6 and ur only gettin the power of a stock I4, your car sucks major asshole. lets put it this way, if ur gonna swap a motor into a honda/acura and u dont know ur shit really well. then ur not gonna be able to swap in a V6, and to be honest, most shops wont know either, cuz most of em arent good enuff to do it.

All things being equal a v6 or I4 makes no difference in speed. It's all about torque and where it's at. As an example the 2003 6s has 220hp at 6300 rpm's and 197 lb-ft torque at 5000 rpms, and the 2006 has 215 hp at 6000 and 199 lbs @ 5000 rpms. By moving the peak hp to 6000 they increased the low end torque. Same motor different tuning.
