in regards to the price range on b16s on HMO, it's not just about the age of the motor. let's break it down:

$1250 - obd-0 motor, tranny, ecu

$1500 - obd-0 motor, tranny, ecu, axles, wiring harness

$1750 - obd-1 motor, tranny, ecu
http://hmotorsonline.com/shop/sc2000search...page&item=30004

$2250 - obd-1 motor, tranny, ecu, axles, wiring harness
http://hmotorsonline.com/shop/sc2000search...page&item=30005

$3850 - b16b - different animal altogether
http://www.hmotorsonline.com/shop/sc2000se...page&item=30006

$600 - obd-0 motor
http://www.hmotorsonline.com/shop/sc2000se...page&item=30021

$900 - obd-1 motor
http://www.hmotorsonline.com/shop/sc2000se...page&item=30022

we can rule out the b16b, 'cuz it's pretty much a complete waste of money. so then decide what you're looking for... long block only; long block, tranny, ecu; long block, tranny, ecu, axles, wiring harness. you'll probably need the middle option. which leaves you two choices... obd-0 for $1250, or obd-1 for $1750. the newer one is more expensive because it's newer, more in demand, rarer (fewer people in japan junking 92-95 civics than 90-91 integras), but if you're putting it in an obd-1 car, it's probably worth the money.

I disagree. The B16B is not a complete waste of money. Most people just don't know what it's good for. The B16B geometry is VERY nice, and can be utilized to make some pretty crazy power if you know what you're doing.

and i disagree, it is exactly the year that makes the price for packages that come with the same components i.e. axles ecu tranny.

it's the obd year/model.. i wasnt gonna go off and start explaining obd to this guy who already has 300 questions (which isnt bad hobbit, you just gotta fuck load of questions) obd year ranges are what they base their pricing on (when dealing with simular packages)

well he was confused between the $1200-$4000 price range, so i tried to break it down and show him that there really aren't all that many options... yeah, newer motors are more expensive, but i tried to simplify it by showing that he's only really choosing between two options.

and the b16b is indeed a fantastic motor with some great geometry, but who can argue in favor of it's price/performance ratio? unless you're doing a very specific build for a certain amateur racing class, you can build one hell of a motor for $3800 using a stock b18c or b16a block.

Where did you guys get your motors? i got my obd2 gsr from a friend, traded him a car i paid $600 for, My brother helped him pull it from some guys car when he bought it, got papers and everything just no axles ecu or harness, all of which were ordered this week(christmas present from my pops). My boy bought the motor for $1500 and it has no more than 55000 miles, only reason my friend didn't use it is because a truckload of TSX's flipped over in his town and he had an in at the local salvage yard, so now he's going k series

IF your looking at spending 4k on a motor, you would be better off just buying a bare block and biulding it with all forged items, Then slap a head on there for another 600.

i got mine from an engine importer i found through google, i think it was called CNS or some shit... it sucked. right out of the crate i had to replace the starter, throttle body, header, crank pulley, and rear mount bracket. the axles were cut and left in the tranny, the wiring harness and everything else was all hacked out, and the distributor froze up after 200 miles and destroyed my head. i think i paid $1550 after shipping. worst deal evar.

but i was living in nebraska at the time, and it's tough waiting around for a good deal when there just aren't too many good motors on the market. I was willing to pay a bit extra for the luxury of being able to pick up a phone and having it delivered to my door. unfortunately, i was lazy and let it sit on the crate for 2 months, which is why i couldn't bitch about everything being broken. NB - when you get a motor shipped to you, check it out immediately and thoroughly.

if i had to do it all over again, i would have bought a whole car already swapped, parted it out, used the motor, and sold the shell. a swapped b16 hatch would have put me back $3500, and would have come with a bunch of other upgrades... i'm sure i could have sold all the parts and the shell for $2000 and then i'd be starting with a motor than i knew would at least run. not to mention the benefit of having a parts car right there.

I agree, it's kind of like what i did, my brother and my friend drove the eg hatch that my motor was in and then pulled it right there. What i'm looking to do right now is buy a swapped car w/ a b16 or b18b and pull that motor and sell it and use the shell, i think i'll end upcomiing out ahead that way, hopefully find one with some cf a good suspension and not in need of an auto to manual conversion like my current car, or this del sol thing might pan out for me, but i'm still not sure if I really want a sol.

Do any of the online sits sell motors that have most of the bottom end work done. For example a b16 with better rods, pistons, all the tuning done one it and all you had to do was swap it in?
