How can i tell if its about to go?
How can i check to see if its a new one, or old one?

Also is it worth the 300-400$ to pay someone to do it? or do try it myself?

if you have never changed a timing belt before, i would suggest that you take it to a professional mechanic. if you dont do it right you can cause more damage than it's worth.

You can take you valve cover off and look at the edges of the belt to see if it looks cracked or worn out. But at 133k and your not sure if it was ever changed i would do it just to be on the same side. As for taking it some were or doing it your self. I always tell people to do there own work because if you don't start learning now then the next time your going to be in the same boat. the adverage cost is $3-500 and while your at it you should change the water pump.
