Hey guys,

Ok so here's my dilemma, I found a better deal for my engine swap somewhere else but the only thing is I dont know the guys and I would have to choose the engine myself. Where as my first deal I had a friend (whos experienced in engine swaps) choose the engine for me.

What kind of things should I be looking at when buying an engine from these swap shops?

I want to make sure I get an engine with low mileage (how can you tell ?) and I basically want an engine in good condition.

You guys have any tips on getting a good engine?

what car is it going into? there's really no way to tell for sure exactly how many miles are on the engine, but let's just hope you trust the people who are doing it for you. Wherever you go, make sure to ask for exactly what comes with it, sensors etc.

make sure you get a 30 day warranty... there's not a lot you can do aside from making sure all the accessories are present and the crankshaft turns over, but once you get it installed and running you'll obviously know a lot more. it's a pain to have to pull it out if you get a lemon, but it's about your only option. just don't do what i did and buy an engine and sit and stare at it for 3 months while the warranty expires.

well I guess I'll go with my gut instinct and go with the guy I can trust, he's just a little more expensive.

It's going on a 99 civic ex (si).

He said he's going to run compression and leak tests and choose the best engine.

yeah dont be foolish, you can tell a lot from a compression and leak down, thats why it's more expesnsive. Save yourself the headaches. You've entered into a new realm now.. dont worry about money cause you wont have any.

I was thinkin of just a straight up trade. i'll even throw in some BRAND NEW blue "R" badges. one for the front AND for the back. Cause im just that nice of a guy. A new car scent air freshner was just recently installed too. think about it.
