do a fuel system tune up...clean the injectors, new filter and see if that helps.

Might check some of the sensors on the intake side also. I know some of them don't through codes and my car sometime about the same thing. with the idle going up and down on its own and just runs really rogh sometimes. My problem was not just plugs and wires but also the idel air control valve or sensor which ever u want to call it

not to hijack this thread.
i have a similar situation.often i get hesitation under 3000rpm, if i give it more gas seems like when more gas is applied it stops. done new plugs, cap, rotor, wires, f filter, gas treatment. next i was gonna look at the tps sensor. any suggestions? no cel.

Not the fuel pump. fuel pump is an electric motor they usually tend to either work or not work. not very often an intermitten thing less its a wiring issue. I don't think thats the case though. I would lean more towards the coil, however you may want to start with the simpler and lesser expensive stuff. Plugs/wires (i recommend NGK for both), cap/rotor... if that doesn't resolve the issue then you may want to look in the dizzy. test the coil or try swapping with a known good unit and retest.
now the reving up and down throws it off a little. was it a noticeable increase (over 800/1000 RPM's or just 200/300 RPMs? if it was on the more extreme side you may have an airpocket in the cooling system from a small leak or a failing TPS sensor. when it does it you can pull the intake coupler off and try using your finger to plug the holes one by one in the T/B if you plug it and it corrects itself then you may have a bad IAC valve. i'd try and source a used one at that point from local pick and pull... <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(loonz @ Apr 11 2006, 08:45 PM) </div> Quote:
or depending on your fuel choice, sometimes one fuel treatment isn't enough. you may have to do 2-3 in a row. I've used the "Berrymans" with very good results after the second bottle/fillup. |

thanks for the reply.
new denso iridium plugs, splitfire dualcore wires, moroso see thru blue cap, oem rotor , oem fuel filter, all just done .it has just gotten worse, when driving the car sometimes it just seems to hesitate and seem to sputter, then boom all of a sudden its ok. then i might come back and do it again. before it would only happen driving under 3000rpm, now it does it anytime before the vtech engage point. the car doesnt rev up or no problems like that, just when driving it sputters. only use 92 or 93 gas.

try using a fuel pressure gauge. one that screws into the service port on the fuel filter itself. tape it to the windshield and test it. should remain constant as you steadly depress it but make sure it doesn't drop/rise sharply. this will eliminate a faulty fuel pressure reg. or pump for the most part. should have minimal 37 lbs to run properly. well using stock injectors anyhow. I'm not to partial to Splitfire anything. always use NGK plugs and wires. Never ever have any issues. I'd also switch back to the OEM cap as well. that could be an issue to. I'm sure it looks cool but you can buy a toy car that fires of sparks when you roll it. lol let us know whatyou get. |
