Got a '95 Civic with exactly 151,000 miles on it. It has a noise which concerns me a bit,
and trying to tell if it's serious or not, to take preventive measures. The sound is a repetitive, reciprocating, light knocking/clatter which seems to occur mostly during light acceleration, varies with RPM, doesn't seem to get any worse at higher RPMs. Not like spark knock pinging, I use 89 midgrade so that doesn't happen. You have to listen for it with windows up. Not very noticeable in neutral if you rev it up, or when idling. I have checked the valve clearances cold and they're OK. I have run Amsoil 0-W30 full synthetic in the motor since I got it with 30k miles on it, change every 6k miles. Not burning any oil, plugs are nice and dry. Not sure whether it's coming from piston slap (ugggh, don't want to think about a teardown) or valvetrain clatter. I have a service app't. with my Honda mechanic to get the timing belt, tensioner, water pump, ALL the motor mounts, and new alt, P/S and A/C belts replaced. Will get him to go for a spin and have a listen, hope it's good news, sure don't want to have to have new pistons/rebore the block. I'm already going to spend about $1000 for the above work. Love my baby and she runs great, mainly wanted to get the rubber band changed, if that pops it's all over ![]() |

I'll know by next week. Just placed my parts order today, it'll be in this Friday. Having the work done on Monday-Tuesday. I'm hoping that it's mostly worn motor mount noise, allowing the engine to vibrate some. But I was told replacing them will almost make it like new, some people think a new motor was installed, Really quiets it down. I also noticed a second noise, which is different. The timing belt tensioner idler pulley has been developing a rattly sound, having it replaced as well. After so many miles, the bearing's getting tiredjavascript:emoticon('

They are a dealership which runs a very good mailorder & online website, carrying both OEM and aftermarket speed goodies. Highly recommended, very competitive prices, you won't get burned by cheap knockoff imitation parts here!!! javascript:emoticon(' issed:" class="inlineimg" />', 'smid_26')smilie |

Well I dont know if this is the same sound but I believe my clutch is starting to go out in my car.. I've got about 196K in my hatch.. and recently my car makes this scraping kind of noise during acceleration.. But the thing is when my car is at idle.. It still makes it unlike in your car you said it stopped...
But when my car is just at idle and I press the clutch, the grinding ends.. So therefore my belief I think its the clutch.. But good lord, I should be swapping within 2-3 weeks any ways so my motors gonna be trash so I really dont give a shiznit about it right now.. Good luck with you car though.... ![]() |
