So I have my car at the shop still (dont know if you guys read my last post, my clutch is slipping). Basically the whole tranny is crap. Apparently there was alot of play in the input shaft (I am not a mechanic and this is second hand) that caused the seals to tear, which caused leakage (tranny fluid?) which burnt the clutch out. Tracing everything back to the diffrential housing being bad, and missing ball bearings!

Anyways, here is the crossroads:

1.Used tranny ($700 US) with 30,000 miles on it.

2. Replace the diffretial and diff housing (some major surjury to the tranny, seals, bearing so forth)
I could get a LSD conversion kit with this route though. But I dont really know anything about them and what brands are good, prices and so forth. Can you guys point me in the right direction?

*Manufacture
*Price
*Website

Also, do you guys think that maybe my mechanic is wrong, or that he is just cheating me?

Need some timly responses, have to make a desicion tommrow.

Thanks in advance

singlecam right? obx...if you wanna get a new diff...they are about 350-400, but youll need the ring gear and bearings....so i dunno if that would be a cheaper route...but it would definately be an improvement.

he could be lying to you...i wouldnt know with out seeing the tranny...go to the shop and take some pics of the dif. bearings that he says are missing ball bearings(they are sealed bearings so you should be able to tell. play in the input shaft...not un common on a honda...they wear easily...i doubt the input shaft seal was leaking, which could have been the only one that got oil on the clutch, and even at that..theres no pressure so its not like its gunna spray all over the place. besides i think you would have noticed drops on the ground from the middle of the motor. all in all...a new dif isnt a big deal...however it is a sohc tranny..and you have no money into this one...so i would say just replace the tranny. its your best bet.

and oh yeah...Dont buy that tranny from him...i would look around...you can find them all over the internet for 200-300 bucks...7 bills for a sohc tranny..a little outrageous to me.

Thanks for the replies, ended up just getting a used tranny ($700). Dont know what you guys mean by them being everywhere and cheap, checked with a bunch of auto recyclers and this was the cheapest.
