gauge lights

hello world.. i got a question for you.. i own an 96 civic and i had a buddy of mine install a cd player for me that works fine and all but heres the catch.. when i have the car on without turning on the head lights the gauage lights work fine... but when i flip the head lights on they turn off... any ideas what went wrong?? i check all the fuses and they seemed fine to me...thanks

Sounds like they're wired backwards, since they're on when they dont need to be and they're off when they should be on. Check the wires from the cd player out and see what he connected where, or just ask him to re-check since it seems like he might know more about it than you.
