that makes absolutely no sense. why the hell would a great car manufacturer ask a crappy car manufacturer for one of its pos cars? it should be the other way around.

it was probably more of a PR move than anything else... GM had been selling corollas as GEO Prisms for several years, and they probably just persuaded Toyota to sell some cavaliers as Toyotas. That way they could maybe convince their shareholders and investors that they weren't re-selling Toyotas because the Toyotas were superior, but rather it was an equitable trade of products in a joint effort to expand markets. I'm sure Toyota crunched the numbers and decided that the amount of money they were getting from GM from the GEO contract probably outweighed the small impact to their image.


Even more trippy, IMO, is the (limited) success of the camaros and firebirds in the JDM over the last 15 years.
