i have contemplated getting my FMIC blacked out as well.

my question is, what is the benefit of anodizing over painting?

does either effect the cooling in any way?

as long as it's sprayed over evenly it shouldn't have a detrimental effect on cooling ability. If you get it painted incorrectly and the paint clumps it could cause insufficient cooling.

Light coats of black paint is fine.

Did you have to cut the plastic grill on the bumper to install the FMIC? I left the plastic grill and it helps to hide the intercooler a bit..might be an option if you don't want to paint your intercooler
