OK sence i've been having problems with soming in my front end i took my wheel off to take a look and noticed that on the bottom of each coil on the coilover the protective rubber coatng is chipping off. It looks like when i hit bumpers that the springs are compressing so much that they are actually hitting on the coile below it. Is this normal??? The coul overs and running on the stock shocks, and have been for the last 4 months. Any ideas????

hmmm. just the paint stuff is chipping off? i dont know how normal it is, how low is your drop?
i think the main thing is just that you want to keep them from rusting. im sure you can pick up some spray paint that acts more as a protective coating.

Well it's not paint is a thin rubber coating. my main concern is that the springs are conpressing so much that the coils are hitting each other. I don't know how low my drop is. 2" maybe. I have 17's and can only fit 1 finger between the tire and fender,

It's probaly all the friction and good ol' wear and tear. I really see no problem with the protective coating coming off. I had the same exact setup as yours but I bet your factory struts are going to go soon. Maybe when they do you can just buy some new coilovers w/ your new struts if your that worried. When your strut goes out I would replace them ASAP.. blown struts eat up tires bad (personal experience

they reduce the tire life by at least half. Yah, I replace my stock ones with KYB AGX from e-ghey. I'm very happy also

Did you cut the bumpstops when you installed the coils? if so then that is the problem, the bumpstops are there for a reason to stop things like this ffrom happening and also the struts might be getting weak causing this or it could just be wear and tear, its hard to say with out some more info on what you did to the struts when installing the coils, how old the struts are, and so forth.
Also AznMenace is correct about struts destroying tires, they will do it really quickly if they are bad enough, reason being they stop the spring from continually bouncing as you drive and hit bumps, if they start failing then the tire bounces and then comes back down and does this so fast you dont even fell it. They say the average stru at 35 mph compresses and expands an average of 250 times per minute. Now think of how many flatspots your tire would have if the strut failed.
