What motor should i get?
First things first you need to sit down and think about what you ultimate future performance level is going to be. Although in modding cars, your never really "done". If you have an idea of where you want to be it will make your decision easier. Here are the deciding factors. Supercharger Turbo Nitrous (aka NAWWWWWZ) Naturally Aspirated NON- Recommended swaps: ANY B/D/H/F Series motor into a 2001+ civic/rsx b16 SiR/EW4/B18A/ ZC/ d16a6/d16a8/d16a9/b20a/b21a/all k-series/ all c-series/ into 92-00 Civic b16a2/ b16a3/ b16a SiR II/b20b/b20z/b21a/b20a/b18c1/b18c5/b18b1/h22a/f20/f22a/ all C-series/all K-series/ into 91 or older civic preludes/accords, stick to the F and H series. Recommended Swaps: if you have a 92-95 civic: easiest swaps- b16 SiR2, 94-95 b18-b/c/c1/c5, b16a3 harder swaps- b16a2, 96-01 b18-b/c/c1/c5 difficult swaps- b16a Sir1, b18a, h22, f22 if you have a 96-98 civic: easiest swaps- 96-98 b18c/c1/c5/b1/b16a/2 hard swaps- 99-00 b16a2, 99-00 h22, f22, b16 sir1, b18a Once you know what you want ultimately performance wise this will help you. Turbo/SC: These setups Raise compression in the block. More fuel more air faster= go faster. Stock Honda Blocks (not including b18b's and b20b/z) will handle about 0-9 psi before you need to build the motor more for the higher compression (usually means lowering the compression in the combustion chamber. B20's and B18b's have a more enforced cylinder wall, therefore can take more compression also since they have lower compression to start with this is a good low psi turbo platform to start with. Nitrous: (I NEED NAWWWZ) Most Honda motors can take a limited amount of spray over a given time table. Although abuse and ignorance to what "NAWWZ" does can blow a motor faster than Monica Lewinsky, drunk at a presidential inauguration. Nitrous is an OXIDIZER not a combustible. Makes the combustion in the chamber hotter if there is not enough fuel or detonation is accruing it has a tendency to take the most easiest traveled relief point.. meaning burn through... pistons, valves, cylinder walls burn through isn't picky. So if you plan to build a motor for nitrous you should consider the reinforced blocks, build the head (valves, springs, retainers) do it right and you go run high nitrous shots reliably whenever you need to. Naturally Aspirated: Honda has made a few motors that work very well with very little upgrading (GSR, ITR, K20a) Although Cams, retainers valves piston's and rods will always help. You can have a mean 4 banger with hardly any out of the pocket expenses directly after the swap. Bottom line. MONEY TALKS! when thinking about your swap think about these things concerning money. * Cost of motor * Cost of install * For Gods sake, get mounts (sucks paying for them after all that but do it now) * Cost of necessary upfront maintenance. Gaskets, belts, oil (mine is 5 bucks a quart) antifreeze, hoses and lord knows what else will pop up. (after you have these things covered have another 300 bucks near just incase) Please do better consideration of your specific needs before you ask us what would be the best motor for you car. There are tons of variables to consider. After this if you have a specific question ask away. (My fingers hurt) if I missed anything mods/admins fix it.. members PM me |
