Okay guys, this is where we want to take the site, it does feel a little spicing up.

First and fore most we want to keep it simple to navaigate through the site and have a consisent feel through the whole site. We need to try to come up with something creative but not go over board with it. So far of the couple of concept ideas that have been posted I like the ideas but there needs to be a better use of space on the page.

We are throwing around the idea of doing a mag like cover for the front page of the site that would change monthly so if you have some ideas lets see them. Just look at your fav. issue of Honda Tuning, Import Turner, SCC or whatever you read and put some ideas together.

So far you guys have been able to come up with some great concepts so lets make the site look awesome.

Couple things to keep in mind:
Everything will end up in the middle of the page like the current site is. SO keep that in mind when you are designing.
Do you best not to flat out copy anything that is out there right now. The goal would be to come up with something fresh for CL without ripping off another site.
Colors bright and eye grabbing and remember they in the end need to match up with the look of the forums.

Last thing...keep everything that is talked about in here and don't be making posts in other forums about what is going on in here. Everyone can see it when it's done.

Do you guys feel is best for a complete overhaul on the design below? Or do you think it just needs to be reworked? Ether option is fine with me. Or if there are things you think we should defiantly keep from the design below, let me know, so when I work on a new design I can implement parts of the design you do like. Or just tell me what should be reworked.

looks pretty good. i know we need lots of eye candy and easy links to get people to stick around and join up. we need to make the links to the forums the most prominent part, they are the best part of the site anyway.

I don't think this is bad at all...a great start. But there is a couple things, that forums log-in box needs to go. I don't think that we'll ever use that. Then the Welcome to Civicland box should be under the Civic of the month picture that the text is talking about. Then the DIY section could move to where the welcome to Civicland box is and show more then one DIY.

The other thing that going to happen with this is we are going to do a lot in CSS so we can get more text on the page and lose a lot of the image based menus and links. So if any one else knows CSS really good please let me know because right not I think that I'm the only one that does know it.

For the designers that don't know it we are still going to need your help designing background graphics and images.

I still think that we need to see a couple mock up so we are have something to shot for. Please share any PSD files remember this is for Civicland and not your pride.

Thumbs down

I?m sorry for my lack of participation in the last week. I started college, and still working two jobs. I?m so busy its crazy, that?s no reason not to be able to reply and talk on here. I will try and add bucks ideas into that layout... Plus show some really ruff mockups. The only problem is I don?t want to keep putting a lot of time into that other design, if buck and the rest of the v-squad don?t really like it. But I will add the suggestions that buck commented on. It might take two days before you see anything, so I?m sorry for that.

I am a CSS newb by the way; I use it a little at work. And I know how to design for it. But when it comes to implementing all the amazing things CSS can do, I can?t do too much. I can do all the basic stuff, like colors and fonts in a style sheet. But I can?t go tableless yet
