Hey guys... I've been doing a lot of reading on engine management for boost, and I've been looking over on turbod16.com quite a bit, and I found out that most of them swear to either uberdata or use the afc hack. I'm considering both, but uberdata seems complicated for a beginner to do. What I'm wondering is, has anyone used the afc hack? One of the mods over at turbod16.com uses it, and he says his car runs great, I'm just worried about timing. If I do run the hack with larger injectors, would i still need to retard the ignition timing? Also, will most performance shops tune for you (ignition timing, all that good stuff), or do you have to do it on your own? I'm basically looking for the easiest way to get my civic running with boost, b/c it has to be a daily driver, and the afc hack seems fairly simple. Keep in mind I'm only going to be running about 7 psi, not much more if any. Input would be appreciated, thanks again.
p.s. Would you need to run bigger injectors if you're running uberdata? Or is the stock fuel system enough for 7psi?

The AFC doesn't control ignition timing. Your car just ends up using whatever ignition value lies "under" the fuel map point that the AFC forces your ECU to use. I don't think that Uberdata would be too difficult for a beginner to use. Just think of it as a giant AFC with both a fuel AND a timing map to play with. You also get a computer screen as an interface instead of just a small dot matrix display. The AFC hack works, but you should keep the tune relatively convervative to make sure you don't blow something up, especially because you can't directly control your timing maps.

there are very little differences between hondata, chrom and uber. mostly prices and ease of use. |

sweet.... can i ask how much it cost you guys to get your setups? Eric? I was just wondering, for everything that you'll need: (chipped p28, data cable, burner, etc). I already have a laptop.

well that depends on the person doing the tuning. I wouldnt advise you doing it yourself unless you take it to a dyno and have them go over it with you.
prices and materials needed again depends on the tuner.. i mean if they have a stock of p28's and chips and shit then you might need anything. the guy that did mine just needed me to get the ecu he had the rest. uber data is free. unlike hondata |

We've been using uber on our obd1 boosted cars. Did play around some with Vafc's its cheap and easy for low psi's and you can installed an msd boost timing controler and cover both timing and fuel. but for the most tunning capabilities I'd go with programming the computer. I havn't used crome but from what i hear its easier to tune, i.e. with uber and hondata you can get "holes" in your tuning and crome eliminates that. If you wanna fry your mind about programmers and programming try this sitehttp://uberdata.pgmfi.org/
