deffinetly to high on a gsr. should be in the 4800-5000 range. sounds like they chipped your ecu for a B16, but thats still high on that motor. my B16 when i first got it had a B17 ecu, and it switched at 5400.

think i should just run a stock obd1 gsr ecu since i'm runnin the stock intake mani, can you use a chipped p28 w/ the stock mani and have it work properly

btw should i keep the stock intake mani on there, some people have been telling me it's a real good intake...unique to the gsr ..etc and the skunk 2 wouldn't make a big difference

so you have a chipped p28? if so you arent hearing the secondaries at all, cause the p28 doesnt operate them. if you had the stock ecu i would say you are hearing the secondaries opening up and not the vtec (which would be at like 4500-4800).
if what im reading is right, then i would ditch your p28 and pick up a p72. or, get a skunk2 mani and leave the p28. either one |

just to add my two cents.
what about the vtech light mod? that should tell you when the vtech solenoid gets power.

Theres a lot of factors that control when vtec crosses over...its not just a set point within the ecu.
One other thing...The IAB's dont really matter....if the p28 isnt powering them...then they are always open...so theres no reason to ditch the p28. If you switch to a p72, you can disconnnect the plug and it wont matter because they will always be open. The IAB are nothing but a restriction of power...they are worthless...Switch to the Skunk 2 Man. There is a difference...the GSR mani. sucks...with some modification it can make some power...but it isnt worth it. |

Actually, you're wrong here. The IAB's were designed to give a stock GSR engine (or motor setup thats using a GSR intake manifold) better low to mid range power. It doesn't suck if the motor is left totally stock. The stock ecu obviously works in conjunction with IAB's because it controls when they open and close. Btw, they fully open up at 5800rpm, VTEC kicks on at 4400-4800rpm depending on TPS load. It's actually been dyno proven on a stock GSR motor, with the IAB's disabled/unplugged the motor loses about 10ft lbs of torque..and this is a noticeable felt by-the-seat-of-your-pants torque loss. However, when upgrading to a Skunk2 manifold, the stock GSR ecu will falls on its face because of the too-early VTEC crossover point of 4800rpm. It's highly suggested to raise VTEC to about 5300-5500rpm if using stock GSR cams and if you disable the IAB's. Raising the VTEC point helps delete the dip in power that occurs with a stock GSR ecu/too early vtec crossover. If upgrading to type-R cams, 5500-5700rpm is a suggested VTEC point. Having a VTEC controller would be handy in this situation. So if you have a pretty much stock GSR engine, its up to you if you wanna disable the IAB's. I don't suggest it if you like losing torque tho ![]() Tonyroll, it wouldn't be a bad idea to run a stock GSR ecu for the time being, until you upgrade to a Skunk manifold, especially if you haven't dont any internal engine performance upgrades such as camshafts. The Skunk manifold is an excellent upgrade I might add. It's a bolt-on 5-8hp increase alone; using the P28 ecu would be the next step once the Skunk manifold is installed. btw.....here's my skunk manifold install write up if you wanna see whats involved: http://www.ff-squad.com/technet/how-to/sk2im/ PS: if you're needing help with your P28, as in reprogramming, I offer these services. Hit me up if you need help! |

edit...nevermind...not worth the time to post...BTW just chipping an ecu and throwing a vafc in there = the worst way to tune...you have no idea how many people ive seen toast their motors, mainly because they run too rich, because people like you suggest chipping and vafc. oh well...for the same price i could sell him hondata and tune the car most likely.
p.s. I use your site a lot, for wiring diagrams, maybe you should stick to those and leave the tuning to people that do it more often. |
